From back then
Did we become who we promised?

You paid to go somewhere with no phone and no work and no talking. And you were happy about it! I don't get it. You used to hate quiet time. You would cry when they made you lie down at nap time.

But look at you now. You sit on the floor on a special mat and you close your eyes and you just breathe. On purpose. Nobody is making you. There is a lady with a soft voice telling everyone to notice their toes, and you notice your toes, and you don't even laugh.

I wanted to ask you something. When the lady said to think of a happy place, where did you go? I hope it was the creek behind Grandma's. I hope you still know the flat rock where the water goes fast.

You know what I noticed most? At the end everybody lay down under blankets and the room got warm and dark and someone was humming and you didn't fight it, you just went soft and safe like a little kid. I thought you forgot how to do that. I really did.

So I have to ask, and please tell me true. All that quiet you were so scared of, all that lying still and breathing and being nobody for a while.

Did it turn out to be the good part?
