Everyone is here! Everyone! All the people who smell like my human, the tall one and the ones with the small hands and the grandmother one who always drops food, they are ALL here in one room and this is the BEST day, the most crowded best day.
But something is different. The smell. Everyone smells like salt water on their faces and nobody is throwing the ball. There is no ball. I brought my rope. I put my rope right on the shiny shoes of the crying man and he did not want the rope. Okay. Okay that is okay. I will hold the rope.
My human is sitting very still in the front and my human is shaking a little and my human is the best human and I do not know why the water is on her face. So I put my head on her knee. That is my job. That is the most important job I have ever had. Her hand came down into my fur and she held on very tight, tighter than the ball, tighter than anything, and she made a sound and I stayed. I stayed I stayed I stayed.
There is a picture at the front of a person I love. The person is not here today but I will wait. I am the best waiter. When the door opens I will be first. When anyone comes back I will be first.
My human is holding me and I am so warm and I am so needed and this is the most I have ever been anyone's good dog.
She needs me. Good. That is the best treat there is.
