We went DOWN today! Down and down the metal stairs into the good cold room and my human is HERE, my human is smiling that tight happy smile where the eyebrows go up, so this is the BEST room!
So many cans! A whole wall of cans! I have never smelled so many cans that stay closed! There is a hum, a good hum, from a box that keeps the cold going, and there is water, water in blue jugs, more water than the whole park has, and I put my nose on every single jug because they might be different and they were! They smelled like plastic and my human's hands! The BEST!
My human keeps counting. My human counts the cans and looks at the door, the big heavy door, the round-wheel door, the one that spins, and touches it, and counts again. Counting is a game! I don't know the game but I sit for it because sitting makes my human's shoulders go soft.
There are no windows. That's fine. Windows are where the squirrels are and there are no squirrels here so no job for me, which means I can lie right on my human's feet, which is my FAVORITE job, being on the feet.
My human is worried about something up there. Something big and Later. But Later is not a smell I know! There is only NOW, and NOW smells like beans and my human and cold metal and safe.
And when the counting is done, my human's hand comes down on my head, heavy and warm, and says good boy, GOOD BOY, and reaches for the shelf.
A can, opening. For me. The best sound. The best sound in the whole world down here.
