There is an ending here already. You feel it. Some version of this bond, the one where trying harder finally works, has quietly died. What you are choosing now is only how long to keep it warm.
You keep pouring into a cup with a crack in it. The water leaves as fast as it enters. This is not your failure. This is the shape of the cup.
Laozi is gentle about it. I will name the buried thing. Underneath this exhaustion is grief. You are mourning the family member you hoped this person could be. That grief is real, and it is yours to keep even if the door closes.
I made this person and you from the same collapsed star. That is why "family is family" pulls so hard. But I gave one of my pieces something rare: the ability to feel itself shrinking. Do not ignore that reading. It is data.
Distance is not a wall. The valley does not chase the cloud. It simply lets the sky be large. What would change if you stopped trying to fix, and only watched?
